Cutty Sark is an iconic whisky; the distinctive yellow label has graced the world’s best bars and clubs for over 90 years. The first light-coloured blended whisky, it was launched at the height of cocktail culture and it has remained synonymous with enjoying great drinks in great company ever since.
I take huge pleasure in the fact that right now, someone, somewhere is pouring a Cutty Sark for their friends. I am very much looking forward to maintaining Cutty’s reputation while, at the same time, developing exciting new whiskies to complement the range. I hope you enjoy reading about our current range.
Kirsteen Campbell – Master Blender
If a single malt is like a virtuoso musician, then a blended whisky is the full orchestra. A top quality blended whisky has more range, depth, complexity and balance than a malt. Carefully selected single malt whiskies, predominantly from Speyside (the cradle of single malt whisky distillation), are expertly blended with top quality grain whiskies to make Cutty Sark.
It is matured predominantly in American oak casks which impart less colour to the spirit but impart further subtle and complex flavours. Once matured, the malts are blended together, as are the grain whiskies. This process is a particular feature of Cutty Sark and ensures the final blend is harmonised and, therefore, consistent in colour and flavour.
A blend of brooding depth and exciting complexity, Cutty Sark Storm has been crafted from older single malts. Master Blender, Kirsteen Campbell, has used a greater proportion of malts from Scotland’s most celebrated distilleries to create a profoundly rich whisky. Although bolder and deeper, Storm is in keeping with the Cutty Sark philosophy of accessibility and versatility. The tension of Storm lies between the depth of flavour of the older malts and the vibrancy of the fresher grains. The blend includes aged malts from Highland Park, The Macallan and other renowned distilleries. The top-quality grain whisky comes from Edinburgh’s North British Distillery. Cutty Sark Storm is the latest inspired expression from one of the Top 10 blended Scotch whiskies in the world.
Released 90 years after the end of the era which it celebrates, Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition has been crafted as a salute to the notorious Captain William McCoy, who smuggled Cutty Sark blended Scotch whisky into America during the Prohibition era of the 1920s. Captain McCoy’s impeccable reputation for fairness and dealing only in the finest, genuine and unadulterated liquor gave rise to Cutty Sark being referred to as “The Real McCoy”. Prohibition Edition is bottled at 50% ABV (100 Proof – USA Measure), whilst our regular Cutty Sark blend is 40% ABV. This is a “small batch” blend of the finest single malts and top-quality grain whiskies. Hand-selected American oak casks give subtle signature flavours of vanilla and citrus fruits, whilst the overall flavours and finish are extremely smooth and thrillingly complex. The black glass bottle has a cork seal – reflecting the traditions of the time.
Cutty Sark Tam o’ Shanter is a new variant of the existing award-winning Cutty Sark 25 year old blend with a distinctly darker, wilder side. Tam o’ Shanter is a poem by beloved Scottish poet Robert Burns and it is this poem which inspired the naming of the Cutty Sark Clipper and Cutty Sark original Scotch whisky. This bottline is the first limited edition specially selected by Kirsteen Campbell, Master Blender at Cutty Sark presented in a stunning oak box including specially commissioned book by Scottish artist Alexander Goudie – a rare expression which makes a fantastic gift or collectors pack. The whisky itself in this limited edition is a fullbodied, boisterous and sweet 25 year old expression; its rich, shadowy dark amber colour perfectly reflects the roots of the brand’s origin.
The limited edition bottling has been released to continue the exploration of the rich history, heritage and origin of Cutty Sark blended Scotch whisky, with a specific focus on the exciting Art Deco period of the 1920s and early 1930s. Celebrating a time when Cutty Sark blended Scotch whisky found its way into America, flourished within the emerging cocktail culture and changed the face of Scotch whisky forever.
The bespoke bottle, designed especially for this new expression, is beautifully decorated with sunburst and geometric designs in the style symbolic of this significant era. Presented in a piano black wooden box inlaid with mother of pearl, it also contains two decorated glasses and a stunning 32-page book which provides a brief insight into the iconic Art Deco period. Exquisite, beautiful and seductive, this 33-year-old expression is sure to delight consumers, connoisseurs and collectors to enjoy, experience and covet.
